Not a whole lot of depth in the football schedule this
weekend. Now shallow is it? So shallow that we’re including matches
from both Mexico and the United States in our Top Five Matches of the
weekend. Maybe that’s a good
thing. Maybe you could use a break
after all of the excitement of this week’s action.
We do have one match this week featuring a pair of clubs
from the most recent WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World. That match comes out of Germany, where Bayer Leverkusen
hosts Bayern Munich in a battle of two of the top three clubs in the German
Bundesliga. Also on our list of
the best matches are a few other European battles, such as Everton hosting
Manchester City and France’s clash between St.-Étienne and Paris St.-Germain.
On this side of the pond, we encourage you to catch
Monterrey and Tijuana, who are doing battle on Saturday night in Mexico. Monterrey advanced to the semifinals of
the CONCACAF Champions League, while Tijuana, despite losing last night, is
still on top of its Copa Libertadores group. A little further north, we are commemorating the Seattle
Sounders becoming the first club from the U.S. to defeat a Mexican club in the
knockout rounds of the CONCACAF Champions League in over ten years by featuring
its match against regional rival, the Portland Timbers.
It’s a slightly shorter schedule than last week, but there
is still plenty of action to watch as we prepare to take a week off for
international action. Have a great
weekend!
