Weekend Soccer on Television - 27/28 August 2011

First it looked like the Spanish clubs weren’t going to play, but now they are.  And then it looked like the Italian clubs were going to play, but not maybe they’ll go on strike.  It’s really difficult to tell what’s going on from one day to another, but we’re going ahead as if everybody is playing this weekend because that’s the way I like it.

And if everybody does play this weekend, it’s going to be one hell of a weekend.  There are no less than five matches featuring clubs in the current WCR Top 25, and two of them are featuring defending European champion Barcelona.  Barça will start on Friday in the UEFA Super Cup against highly-ranked Porto.  On Monday, Barcelona’s Primera Division defense campaign will get under way at the Camp Nou against Villarreal.

In between are several high-profile matchups, including the aforementioned clashes between ranked clubs as Borussia Dortmund faces Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday and Sunday sees top-ranked Manchester United host Arsenal and defending French Ligue Un champions Lille host runners-up Marseille.

What else do we have?  It’s all below.  Sometime tomorrow, provided schedules are finally set, we’ll post the schedule for Argentina.  For now, here’s the U.S. television schedule with all times in Eastern Daylight Time.  Have a great weekend!!!!
