Things are still way behind here during my final full weekend in Buenos Aires, so let’s just get straight to the matches.
Perhaps the big news as far as club matches this week is that there should be a few more champions crowned here in the Western Hemisphere this week. With a victory on Sunday over Boca Juniors, Banfield can clinch a rare Argentine championship. Meanwhile, further north, Monterrey and Cruz Azul will play the second leg of their Apertura championship match.
Across the pond, the marquee matchup for the anglophiles will be Sunday’s battle between Arsenal and Liverpool. In France, perennial powerhouse Lyon will host current Ligue Un leaders Bordeaux. The two matches, however, that involve two WCR Top 25 clubs take place in Germany when Werder Bremen hosts Schalke 04 and in Spain where Valencia will host Real Madrid.
