As seems to be common, the week following an international break sort of works as a slow start back into the stream of futbol. The great matches don’t start until the Champions League picks up on Tuesday. Most clubs are back in action this weekend, but there aren’t any marquee matchups to talk about.
The lack of classic matchups, however, as well as the lack of matches involving WCR Top 25 Clubs, allows us to go to nonconventional places to find our top five matches of the week. One of those places is Russia, where Rubin Kazan can clinch a second consecutive championship with a victory. Another place is the United States where one club definitely will clinch a championship by winning the MLS Cup.
There are several ranked clubs that are not being televised this weekend, including five from Portugal and the Netherlands alone. The best non-televised match of the weekend promises to be the battle in Turkey between Besiktas and Fenerbahce, although the match between Banfield and Independiente here in Buenos Aires should be great as well.
