With an international week upon us, there will be no action, televised or otherwise, in most of the world’s top domestic leagues. Despite the international break, however, and despite the fact that Brazil, Mexico and the United States are participating in World Cup qualifiers, those three nations’ domestic leagues all will see reduced-strength clubs playing in local action. Because of this, we have a single club from the WCR Top 25 televised this weekend when eighteenth-ranked Palmeiras hosts Gremio Barueri on Saturday from Brazil. The highlight of the weekend, of course, will be the World Cup qualifiers; and the highlight of those will be in South America where Argentina will host Brazil. As is typical during the international weekends, most of the soccer networks will broadcast a handful of live matches and a series of taped matches to fill up the weekend schedule. The most prominent matches on the schedule are the European qualifiers, since there are so many of them, but there are also a handful of North American qualifiers on Saturday, as well. The South American qualifiers are mostly tape delayed and will primarily be broadcast on Monday, in English on Setanta USA and en espanol on ESPN Deportes. The schedule below lists the earliest broadcasts that I can find for all of the matches.
There’s no Top Five Matches of the Week for the international weekend, but the list will return with the next installment of the Weekend Television Schedule. Whether you’re a big fan of international play or, like me, have more of a passing interest, have a great weekend!!!
