WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World - Post Libertadores Edition

Congratulations to Estudiantes de La Plata, 2009 Copa Libertadores Campeones!!!

The championship had very little affect on the rankings because Estudiantes had already completed its Argentine Clausura season at the time of our last rankings and it had already received Bonus Points for their Copa Libertadores success. Therefore, Estudiantes remains at number 24 in our rankings. The only changes in our rankings, in fact, occur based on the movement of clubs in the Brasileirao Serie A, which is approximately a quarter of the way through its 2009 campaign.

This is the final ranking of the 2008-09 season. Even though the Copa Libertadores has just been completed, however, several Latin American seasons have started or will start in the next few weeks. Furthermore, some of the top European clubs will be in action in just a few weeks in nations such as the Netherlands and France. For this reason, WCR’s second annual pre-season Top 25 will make its debut next week. As usual, it won’t be a predictive tool, but rather will be a similar ranking, stripping away all of the bonus points and slightly revising national league rankings as necessary.

It’s been a great season and another one is just around the corner. Thanks for following the rankings!!!
