Weekend Soccer Television Schedule - 23/24 August 2008

Somebody, please correct me because I hope I’m wrong, but it appears that the Italian Super Coppa isn’t being televised anywhere in the U.S. How is a match between Inter Milan and Roma not televised? Sad, sad, sad. Maybe it is somewhere, but I can’t find it.

I did find a lot, though. The highlight of the week, for me, will be the Schalke 04 / Werder Bremen match, witch pits two WCR Top 25 Clubs. Also, as usual, there is a full slate of English action on tap. I’m anxious to see if Newcastle United can keep its hot streak alive and see how both Manchester United and Portsmouth bounce back on Monday.

There is also some good MLS action this weekend for a change. (Not that there’s not good MLS action, just that it always seems to be at midweek.) I think I’d call the Real Salt Lake / Columbus Crew the best of the matchups this week, but you can make your own mind up about that. (I should not that I believe the Univision site is a little slow in posting weekend action this week, so I’ll update that information when it becomes available.)

As usual, there’s also an array of action from all over the place: Russia and Japan on ESPN 360, Colombia and Uruguay on GolTV, Australia on FSC. This is the last weekend before Italy, Spain and the Netherlands kick in, so get ready. Have a good weekend!!!
