Fearless UEFA Cup Predictions

(Fearless because there are no repercussions.) I haven’t seen too many of these, so I thought I might as well go ahead and “boldly” predict the outcome of the upcoming UEFA Cup round. Several of the teams are in the current Weekly Top 25 so there should be some great matchups – eventually. As for now, none of the elite teams are in competition with each other. If they can keep themselves motivated, however, and play up to their potential, then from the quarterfinals on, this could be a fantastic tournament.

To be honest, I haven’t seen several of these teams play, e.g., teams from Scandanavia and Belgium. My picks are coming strictly from my most recent rankings, so I’m not picking (m)any upsets, but I figured I’d put them on the record anyway.

Predictions for UEFA Cup Round of 32

Villarreal (Esp) over Zenit St. Petersburg (Rus)
Bayer Leverkusen (Ger) over Galatasaray (Tur)
AEK Athens (Gre) over Getafe (Esp)
Everton (Eng) over Brann (Nor)
Werder Bremen (Ger) over Sporting Braga (Por)
Bordeaux (Fra) over RSC Anderlecht (Bel)
PSV Eindhoven (Ned) over Helsingborg (Swe)
Marseille (Fra) over Spartak Moscow (Rus)
Rangers (Sco) over Panathinaikos (Gre)
Sporting CP (Por) over Basel 1893 (Sui)
Bayern Munchen (Ger) over Aberdeen (Sco)
Hamburger (Ger) over Zurich (Sui)
Fiorentina (Ita) over Rosenborg (Nor)
Atletico de Madrid (Esp) over Bolton Wanderers (Eng)
Tottenham Hotspur (Eng) over Slavia Prague (Czc)
Benfica (Por) over Nurnberg (Ger)

Teams that wouldn’t surprise me to see pull off upsets: Galatasaray, Sporting Braga, Rosenborg, Getafe, Nurnberg.
